We want to bring you a small selection of our favourites, why not give them a try and start the year with something new?
Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery
Nestled in the heart of the Chiltern Valley is this fabulous winery and brewery, which has been creating its own wines since the 1980’s, moving onto ales in later years. Offering a fabulous range of red, white and sparkling wines all made on site, as well as an excellent selection of ales, customers are spoilt for choice. A real treat is their delicious variety of liqueurs, including damson vodka, Irish cream and wild peach.
The venue has its own shop on site where you can browse the stock and purchase a bit of what you fancy, however we would suggest you book onto one of their ‘Tour and Tasting’ events, which not only gives you a background into how their produce is created, but also a generous tasting of their wines, ales and liqueurs.
Loose Cannon ales
Creating a wide range of beers from their base in Abingdon-on-Thames, award-winning Loose Cannon Brewery have increased in popularity since they began in 2010. With 21 different beers under their belt, Loose Cannon have mastered the tastes of the local community and now supply their beers through their on-site shop as well as at local pubs and beer festivals.
Whilst you can pop in throughout the week to purchase stock, you can also take advantage of one of their highly popular brewery tours where you can sample up to 9 beers and listen to talks on their beer and brewing process.
Producing the highest quality wines from grapes cultivated in as environmentally friendly a way as possible, the owners of Bothy Vineyard in Frilford Heath work tirelessly to create beautiful local wine.
Bothy wines have won the award for the best white wine in the Thames region over several years. The wine styles now include a rosé, sparkling and a red, as well as very popular dry whites.
As a seasonal business, Bothy Vineyard will re-open in Spring 2015, however some of their wines can be purchased from local shops such as Added Ingredient in Abingdon and the Appleton Village shop. Why not consider booking a group tour later in 2015 to find out all about the wine making process and enjoy tasting some of these wonderful local products?
Advocating many local wine makers and brewers, the Millets Farm shop is a wonderful treasure trove of ales, ciders and wines with a distinctly local flavour.
However, in addition to the alcoholic beverages, one of Millets Farm’s most exciting offerings is their wide range of 9 apple and 2 pear juices grown using traditional systems in orchards at the Farm. The juices are meticulously created and are free of sugar, water, colour and preservatives, so if you want to enjoy a healthy, non-alcoholic beverage you cannot find better or more local than this! It is possible to pick up a few bottles from the shop or you can also buy cases of 12 which are perfect for parties and special occasions.
